A wonderful song

Who said Contemporary Christian Music wasn't God-honoring and edifying?

Casting Crowns – East To West

Here I am, Lord, and I'm drowning in your sea of forgetfulness
The chains of yesterday surround me
I yearn for peace and rest
I don't want to end up where You found me
And it echoes in my mind, keeps me awake tonight
I know You've cast my sin as far as the east is from the west
And I stand before You now as though I've never sinned
But today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

Chorus:
Jesus can You show me just how far the east is from the west
'Cause I can't bear to see the man I've been come rising up in me again
In the arms of Your mercy I find rest
'Cause You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

I start the day, the war begins, endless reminding of my sin
Time and time again Your truth is drowned out by the storm I'm in
Today I feel like I'm just one mistake away from You leaving me this way

Chorus:

I know You've washed me white, turned my darkness into light
I need Your peace to get me through
get me through this night
I can't live by what I feel, but by the truth Your word reveals
I'm not holding on to You, but You're holding on to me
You're holding on to me

Chorus:

Just how far, east is from the west
Just how far, one scarred hand to the other
You know just how far, just how far east is from west
Just how far, from one scarred hand to the other

Be blessed...

Love and Grace,

Joe

I don't think anyone is saying all contemporary music is not worthy to be called Christian, but there are some that are just ridiculous. That point cannot be denied. I do agree with you though. There are some really great modern Christian songs, but some are not honoring. Its hit and miss. Just wanted clarification.

Define what YOU, emphasis on YOU, consider "ridiculous" Kyle?

And what does the Bible define as "God honoring" when it comes to music?

If you can define these things, then you're doing well for yourself in terms of exegesis. Better than 2000 years of Christians, I think. =)

I think the only 'hit and miss' that exists in "God-honoring" music, is in your own preferences, Kyle.

If a Christian makes a song to the Lord, for the Lord, about the Lord, about their life with the Lord, or any other combination having to do with God in a positive way, who are we to say it doesn't honor God? Who made us the judges? No one.

If we're basing "God-honoring music" on the Word of God, then that brings me back to my original questions. What is considered "God-honoring" music in Scripture?

David dancing mostly naked to music for the Lord, was that God-honoring?

What is the meaning of "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord..."

I see Psalms...I see Hymns...and...what are "Spiritual Songs"?

I see MUCH latitude here. Much gray area.

Think about it. See you soon brother!
